Flu is caused by a virus and does not need treatment with antibiotics unless complications occur.
People at high risk of complications of flu include those with chronic illnesses such as Asthma COPD Heart Disease Chronic Kidney Disease and Diabetes and those aged over 65. These people or their carer should contact your doctor by telephone during the early stage of flu for more advice.
