For the above conditions, please call the surgery to arrange an urgent appointment

  • Chest infections
  • Urine infections (please see below also)
  • Flu or Covid
  • Tonsillitis or ear infections
  • Concerns about a cancer
  • Pregnancy related issues

The following are not suitable to be dealt with by general practice and should be directed elsewhere:

  • Mental health crisis – Call 111 and choose option 2
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath, collapse, weakness in a limb, loss of sight or speech – Call 999 now

The following conditions can usually be dealt with by the pharmacy who can also prescribe antibiotics if indicated:

  • Ear infections ages 1 to 17 years
  • Impetigo age 1 year and over
  • Infected insect bites age 1 year and over
  • Shingles age 18 years and over
  • Sinusitis age 12 years and over
  • Sore throat and tonsillitis age 5 years and over
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in Women age 16-64 years
  • Conjunctivitis (sticky eyes) age 3 and over
  • Hayfever
  • Simple coughs and colds (not if you are particularly unwell or your cough has lasted more than 4 weeks)
  • Stomach bugs – vomiting and diarrhoea
  • Simple indigestion or constipation
  • Emergency medicine supplies
  • Emergency contraception
  • Contraception – including starting or renewing contraceptives in women age 16 and older
  • Minor skin conditions, rashes, eczema, warts, verrucas and athletes foot.
  • Vaginal thrush

You can attend your pharmacy without an appointment and  will either be able to see you, arrange an appropriate time to see you or direct you to an appropriate alternative service.

If you have already had treatment for a urine infection, are pregnant, have diabetes or are on medications that suppress your immune system, they may direct you back to the surgery.
